Anawam No.6
Fall River Fire Museum

The newly-born Fall River Fire Museum is a project spearheaded by a volunteer group of firefighters.  The museum’s mission is to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts that properly document the history of the Fall River Fire Department. We are also dedicated to educating the public in fire safety and prevention and to serve as a memorial to those who have given their lives to the fire service.

The fire museum has entered into an agreement with the city, which looks at the possibility of locating the museum at the Anawan Firehouse No. 6 located at 1181 North Main Street in Fall River. This building housed a fire and police station when it was built in 1873. Designed by Harwell and Swazey, this Italianate style structure is listed on the National Register. It currently houses the Fall River Traffic Division and Fall River Animal Control.
The centerpiece of the proposed museum will be a 1936 Maxim pumper that served the city of Fall River years ago.
The museum’s long-range plans are to enter into a lease agreement with the city to occupy and restore the building back to its 1873 grandeur. We will be applying for grants and soliciting donations; any help that you’d like to offer would be greatly appreciated
